Stories from the field, unedited.
Born in Appenzell and raised in Hong Kong, Dominic studied photography in Toronto before moving to Nairobi in 2009. His reporting has taken him into conflicts, disasters, and the lives of people caught up in them, from Somalia to Japan and Ukraine.
He worked as a contract photographer for TIME from 2011 to 2015 and joined the photo team at Neue Zürcher Zeitung in 2021. His work has also appeared in National Geographic and The New Yorker. In 2024, he was named Swiss Press Photographer of the Year.
Teaching is another part of that life. Through workshops and teaching at art schools, he shares the practice of making photographs with people finding their own way into the medium.
Alongside his assignments, Dominic wanted a place to tell stories in his own words. He publishes Unedited: photographs, notes from the road, and the parts that never make it into the assignment. A journal that reaches readers directly, with room for a story to unfold.
That experience shapes what we build at Arc. The order of the pictures matters. So does their scale, the space around them, and the words that hold them together. Dominic brings the photographer’s eye to those decisions, asking whether the way we publish does justice to the work.
